President - Derrick Smith
Derrick Smith is the President of Veracity Aviation. He began his career by enlisting in the US Navy at 17 and became a helicopter rescue swimmer. He flew over 1300 hours as a SH-60B crewman and completed three deployments in the Western Pacific. In July 2005, Derrick left the Navy with an "Honorable" discharge after serving 5 years. He then moved to New Braunfels, TX for fun and a change of pace. Derrick enrolled at Silver State Helicopters (SSH) in September of 2005 where he completed his CFI in April of 2007. He began working at SSH as line CFI where he later earned his CFII certificate and completed his degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelors of Science in Professional Aeronautics. While working for SSH Derrick also worked part-time as an instructor doing accelerate helicopter training, helping others get their ratings. He then began writing a business plan to implement personalized helicopter flight instruction that would be able to yield exceptional results. When SSH filed for bankruptcy, Derrick saw no better opportunity than the present to go ahead and fill a definite need in the helicopter flight training industry. Derrick holds an ATP rating.
